Astra, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (PERDAMI), conducted eye examinations and provided eyeglasses to around 100 junior high school students at SMPN 133 in Kampung Berseri Astra, Pulau Pramuka, Jakarta. The event took place on Wednesday, May 28. This initiative is part of Astra’s efforts to address refractive eye disorders among the younger generation.

Data from PERDAMI’s 2023 examination of elementary school children revealed that approximately 40.1% experienced refractive eye disorders. These conditions prevent the eyes from focusing light properly on the retina, resulting in blurred vision. The collaboration aims to provide timely and appropriate treatment for such disorders among young people.

“Through the Astra Untuk Indonesia Sehat program, Astra implements various health programs focusing on mothers, children, and adolescents,” said Boy Kelana Soebroto, Chief of Corporate Affairs at Astra. “Astra is committed to contributing to improving public health quality, especially supporting young generations to learn and develop optimally.”

The event was attended by Dr. Julie Dewi Barliana from PERDAMI Jakarta Region; Drg. Wenny Ichwaniah from Kepulauan Seribu Health Office; Mutiarso from Kepulauan Seribu Education Office; Dra. Mamah from SMPN 133 Kepulauan Seribu; representatives from Astra; and Yayasan Amaliah Astra.

Additionally, Ayu Rahmawati Hidayat shared insights during a seminar on Clean and Healthy Living Behavior for teenagers as part of the event activities.

Previously similar programs were held at several other schools within Kampung Berseri Astra areas like SMPN 118 Rawasari and others.

Kampung Berseri Astra has been active in Pulau Pramuka since 2015 with projects like building child-friendly public spaces and waste management initiatives including a pyrolysis machine for converting plastic waste into fuel oil.

Pulau Pramuka’s Kampung Berseri has received multiple accolades such as Proklim Lestari 2024 recognition and others for its community efforts towards sustainability.

Astra continues its commitment to enhancing life quality through its social contributions aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
