CIMB Bank Berhad and CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad have announced a new partnership with ASCARO, marking the bank’s entry into the sport of padel in Malaysia. The collaboration will see the launch of the CIMB Padel Open tournament, set for June 2026. In advance of the event, CIMB customers can access exclusive benefits at ASCARO’s padel courts located at 1 Utama shopping mall, with additional courts to open soon at TREC Kuala Lumpur.
The initiative is part of CIMB’s efforts to foster community engagement through activities that promote teamwork and shared interests. The bank states that this aligns with its “Kita Bagi Jadi” movement, which aims to nurture resilience and optimism among Malaysians.
As part of the agreement, holders of CIMB credit and debit cards are eligible for a 15% discount on Gold & Black membership subscriptions at ASCARO Padel & Social Club when using their CIMB cards. Additionally, CIMB Preferred clients receive further privileges such as complimentary court access, exclusive merchandise, and invitations to special events. These offerings are intended to enhance customer experiences beyond traditional banking services.
Gurdip Singh Sidhu, Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Malaysia and CIMB Bank Berhad; Toni Darusman, Group Chief Brand & Marketing Officer of CIMB; and Daniel Liljekvist, Managing Director and Partner of ASCARO attended the announcement event.
Gurdip Singh Sidhu said, “CIMB is proud to play a role in advancing Malaysia’s sports and lifestyle landscape through purposeful partnerships. From supporting national icons, to curating premium experiences such as the CIMB Preferred Golf Series and now expanding into padel, we continue to find meaningful ways to elevate communities and promote active living.
Our collaboration with ASCARO brings that same spirit to a new audience. Padel is more than just a sport. It is about connection, agility, and inclusivity – values that reflect CIMB’s own purpose. As the first bank locally to champion padel, we are broadening access to one of the fastest growing sports in the country while enriching the lives of our customers with experiences that inspire balance, wellbeing, and togetherness.”
Daniel Liljekvist commented on padel’s regional growth: “Padel that was originated from Mexico and made popular in Spain has seen rapid growth across Southeast Asia over the past few years, and ASCARO is redefining the landscape of urban recreation and networking. We are creating a unique fusion of athletic engagement and premium lifestyle, and this collaboration with CIMB marks a pivotal step in this journey. CIMB’s progressive approach towards the aspirations of their diverse clientele have enabled us to spotlight padel as a sport that aligns with contemporary lifestyles.”
To encourage participation in next year’s tournament, CIMB cardholders will receive discounts on tournament fees. Preferred clients will be offered complimentary slots in the competition as well as privileged access to amenities like the lounge area and viewing deck during the event.
The three-day tournament will be open to both amateur and professional players from across Malaysia. Organizers expect over 200 participants for what they describe as one of Kuala Lumpur’s most anticipated racquet sport events.
CIMB Preferred clients also have access to other privileges including golf tournaments as well as personalized advisory services through its Chief Investment Office.
