Lexus has introduced the all-new ES model at its world premiere during the Shanghai Motor Show, which runs from April 23 to May 2. The ES is a core model for Lexus, having been launched alongside the flagship LS in 1989. The new model will be rolled out across various regions starting in mid-2026.
The ES has been redesigned with a focus on electrification, featuring both hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) technologies. Lexus aims to deliver a premium cabin experience through spacious rear seating and advanced technology. The design of the new ES draws inspiration from the next-generation BEV concept, LF-ZC, and emphasizes quietness and ride comfort.
Kohei Chiashi, Chief Engineer at Lexus International, stated that “the new ES was developed with the aim of redefining the sedan.” He highlighted that the sedan offers advantages such as high body rigidity and a low center of gravity, contributing to its ride comfort and handling stability.
Lexus plans to use this model as part of its strategy to advance towards a carbon-neutral society by offering a diverse range of electrified vehicles. The company continues to focus on HEVs, PHEVs, and BEVs to meet customer needs globally.
The development of the new ES took place at Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama (TTC-S), where teams worked collaboratively on planning, design, engineering, and evaluation. Chiashi noted that “this vehicle represents the culmination of the dedication and expertise of everyone involved in its creation.”
Lexus’s commitment to advancing core vehicle performance through electrification aligns with their goal of redefining future mobility while enhancing modern lifestyles. This initiative is part of Toyota’s broader effort called “Achieving Zero,” which aims to address societal issues while creating value beyond zero emissions.
