Lexus has introduced the new IS, a compact FR sports sedan, at a world premiere event on September 9, 2025. The updated model will be available in various markets starting in early 2026.
The IS has been part of Lexus’s lineup since 1999 and is known for its focus on driving enjoyment and sporty design. Over the past 25 years, it has achieved cumulative sales of about 1.3 million units across 40 countries and regions. Development of the IS included testing at the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama as well as other locations worldwide to refine its performance characteristics.
The latest version comes in two variants: the IS 300h and IS 350. The development theme was “Refinement in performance and design,” with an emphasis on creating an engaging driving experience and an aggressive exterior style. Improvements include a rack-parallel electric power steering system with a variable gear ratio for more responsive handling, and a linear-solenoid type adaptive variable suspension that balances stability with comfort.
Exterior updates feature a redesigned front that highlights the car’s low center of gravity and wide stance. The F SPORT model includes a new rear spoiler to enhance aerodynamics and newly styled lightweight aluminum wheels. The color range now offers eight options, including Neutrino Gray.
Inside, the cabin focuses on driver engagement with an enlarged 12.3-inch center display and digital instrument cluster. New “Forged Bamboo” trim decorates parts of the interior, while a new color option called “Prominence” adds to the sporty atmosphere.
Safety features have also been expanded through Lexus Safety System + and Advanced Drive (Lexus Teammate Advanced Drive), which supports highway driving during traffic congestion.
Yasushi Muto, Lexus International Chief Engineer, stated: “In refining the IS, our unwavering focus was on achieving true dialogue between car and driver, where the driver’s intentions are faithfully conveyed to the vehicle, and the car’s responses are clearly felt in return. With that ideal in mind, we’ve pursued development without compromise, always aiming for the next level. Building on the IS’s distinctive ride comfort and outstanding vehicle control, the model has evolved to deliver an even more engaging experience from within the cabin. This evolution is driven by careful attention to detail in the redesigned interior, advancements in preventive safety technologies through Lexus Safety System +, and the integration of the latest multimedia system. We invite you to experience the pure joy of driving in the newly reimagined IS.”
