Samsung Electronics has begun the rollout of a software update for its Bespoke AI Refrigerators, introducing new features designed to enhance user convenience. This update includes the Voice ID feature powered by Bixby, which was first unveiled at the Welcome to Bespoke AI global launch event in March.

Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team for Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, “Our primary goal for this year is to realize an AI Home that adapts intuitively to the user. We aim to enhance the user experience through continuous software upgrades for existing products, taking us one step closer to a true AI Home experience.”

The Voice ID feature allows for multi-voice recognition through Bixby. It identifies users’ voices registered on either the refrigerator or a Galaxy mobile device, enabling personalized features based on the recognized user. This offers consumers greater convenience and functionality by personalizing shared home appliances.

For instance, Bixby can switch to each user’s Samsung account based on voice recognition. Users can access their schedules on a calendar or view photos using simple voice commands. Additionally, they can trigger an alarm on their phone to locate it even if it’s set to silent mode.

The feature also facilitates interactions with the refrigerator screen for users who use vision enhancements on their Galaxy mobile phones. Without needing a request to switch accounts, Bixby automatically synchronizes display modes with settings like color inversion or grayscale from the user’s mobile phone.

Samsung has also introduced a new method for activating Bixby on screen devices. Besides clicking the icon or using voice commands when the screen is off, users can now activate Bixby by double-tapping the display and selecting their preferred method in settings.

This update initially applies to Bespoke AI Refrigerators with AI Family Hub launching in 2025 after completing updates on AI Family Hub screens or SmartThings. The company plans to extend this update gradually in Q2 2025 to Bespoke AI refrigerators with AI Home.

Furthermore, for refrigerators equipped with AI Home, Samsung is expanding Samsung TV Plus service areas beyond South Korea and the United States into Canada, Brazil, Australia, Mexico, and India. The update aims to allow consumers easier access to entertainment features directly from their kitchens via Samsung TV Plus.
