Singtel has launched the fourth edition of its Expressions Through Art initiative, presenting an exhibition at Gardens by the Bay that highlights the creative work of students from special education schools (SPED) across Singapore. The event marks SG60 and features 25 artworks from students representing each SPED school in the country, centered on the theme “My Singapore, My Home.”
The exhibition was opened by Aileen Tan, Singtel Group Chief People and Sustainability Officer and Chairman of Singtel Touching Lives Fund, alongside Goh Pei Ming, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Social and Family Development. Around 150 people attended, including student artists, their families, and educators.
Aileen Tan stated: “Our goal has been to give students with special needs a platform to express their creativity and imagination. This is an integral part of our efforts to help them to realise their full potential, and of our longstanding support of the local arts scene. As Expressions Through Art enters its fourth year, we’re delighted that it has nurtured confidence and sparked connections. Each artwork for SG60 is a window to how they see their world and dream it could be, conveying unique stories of hope and belonging. These young artists show us that creativity knows no boundaries, and that every individual can inspire and enrich our society. We’re honoured to celebrate their talents and share their art with the wider community.”
Stanley Chan, Principal of Eden School, added: “We are grateful that Singtel’s Expressions Through Art initiative is uplifting students with special needs. Through art, our students with autism discover a joyful way to express who they are. Every colour, shape and texture tells a story of courage, creativity, and heart. In celebrating their art, we celebrate inclusion – honouring each unique voice as a beautiful part of our shared human masterpiece.”
As part of this initiative organized by Singtel at Gardens by the Bay earlier in the year, one student from each SPED school participated in an arts workshop where they created pieces using various materials such as watercolours, coloured pencils, and fluorescent markers.
The displayed works reflect how these students perceive Singapore today as well as their hopes for its future through depictions like iconic landmarks or neighbourhood scenes. Some explored topics such as cultural heritage or communal spirit within Singaporean society.
From November 7 to 21, 2025, visitors can view these artworks at North Colonnade near Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay. Digitised versions will also appear on digital screens at Parkway Parade, 313@Somerset and JEM shopping malls; on Gardens by the Bay’s website; as well as selected train stations and bus shelters near SPED schools island-wide.
Expressions Through Art began in 2022 to commemorate two decades since launching Singtel Touching Lives Fund (STLF), which supports six beneficiary SPED schools in Singapore. The program aims both to highlight artistic abilities among SPED students while encouraging greater inclusivity in society.
