SK hynix Inc. announced the completion of development and readiness for mass production of HBM4, a next-generation memory product designed for high-performance artificial intelligence applications. The company stated that it is prepared to supply HBM4 to customers according to their plans, aiming to maintain its competitive position in the market.
The new HBM4 product offers twice the bandwidth and over 40% improved power efficiency compared to the previous generation. This increase in performance comes as demand for AI and data processing continues to rise, leading to greater requirements for high-bandwidth memory solutions and energy efficiency in data centers.
Joohwan Cho, Head of HBM Development at SK hynix, said, “Completion of HBM4 development will be a new milestone for the industry. By supplying the product that meets customer needs in performance, power efficiency and reliability in timely manner, the company will fulfill time to market and maintain competitive position.”
HBM4 achieves its performance gains through 2,048 I/O terminals—double that of its predecessor—and operates at speeds exceeding 10Gbps per JEDEC standards. The company anticipates up to a 69% improvement in AI service performance when using this product, which could help address data bottlenecks and reduce power costs in data centers.
The manufacturing process incorporates Advanced MR-MUF technology for chip stacking and uses the fifth generation of 10-nanometer technology (1bnm) to support stable mass production.
Justin Kim, President & Head of AI Infra at SK hynix, said, “We are unveiling the establishment of the world’s first mass production system of HBM4. HBM4, a symbolic turning point beyond the AI infrastructure limitations, will be a core product for overcoming technological challenges. We will grow into a full-stack AI memory provider by supplying memory products with the best quality and diverse performance required for the AI era in a timely manner.”
SK hynix is headquartered in Korea and supplies DRAM and NAND flash memory chips globally. Its shares are traded on both the Korea Exchange and Luxembourg Stock Exchange. More information can be found on their official website: www.skhynix.com.
