Tencent announced on Mar. 17 a partnership with the City University of Hong Kong to launch the inaugural “WeTech Academy Principals’ AI Open Class x Tencent AI Campus Tour.” This event marked the official introduction of the Tencent WeTech Academy 2026 Talent Development Program, which aims to make artificial intelligence education more accessible and help young people in Hong Kong turn their ideas into real-world applications.
The program is designed to nurture innovation-driven talent and accelerate AI adoption across all educational stages in Hong Kong. Dr. James Li Tsz-shu, Vice President of Public Affairs and Vice President of Cloud & Smart Industries at Tencent, said, “At Tencent, we have always embraced the value of ‘Tech for Good.’ As AI becomes increasingly embedded in everyday life, we aim to empower young people with access to core technologies and ecological resources, enabling them to address real-world challenges. Our goal is to help them progress from technology learners to innovators, creating social value and contributing to Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology hub.”
Since its inception, Tencent WeTech Academy has benefited nearly 50,000 young people in Hong Kong and Macao by integrating technological ecosystem resources across all educational levels. The new 2026 Talent Development Program will focus on public service practice, global competitions—including a new track for regional youth—and expanded talent development initiatives that promote technology for social good.
As part of its “AI for Good” initiative, Tencent will collaborate with organizations such as the Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and Po Leung Kuk. Activities include community-based field studies for primary and secondary students as well as an “AI competition” themed around chronic disease management for university students.
The program also includes hands-on training sessions where over 100 school principals participated in practical workshops led by Tencent instructors. These sessions aimed at lowering teaching barriers through technology integration are expected to expand citywide among teachers.
During the campus tour at CityU, Tencent introduced its Youth AIGC Edition platform tailored for local teaching needs. The event also featured an exhibition showcasing innovations like large language models and security solutions developed by Tencent.
Looking ahead, Tencent plans further collaboration with various sectors in Hong Kong through diverse programs offered by WeTech Academy—aiming toward universal AI training opportunities for local youth.
