Tencent Charity Foundation has announced a donation of HK$30 million (US$3.6 million) to assist emergency relief efforts after a level-five fire occurred at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong. The foundation stated that the funds will be used to help residents affected by the incident, including support for temporary resettlement, provision of essential supplies, and psychological assistance.
Initially, Tencent Charity Foundation pledged HK$10 million on the morning following the accident. After the Hong Kong SAR Government set up the Tai Po Wang Fuk Court Relief Fund, Tencent increased its commitment with an additional HK$20 million directed to this fund. This brought their total contribution to HK$30 million for relief and recovery initiatives.
In a statement, Tencent expressed appreciation for those involved in emergency response efforts: “Tencent conveyed its highest respect to the firefighters, ambulance personnel, and all organizations that have responded swiftly to the disaster. The company expressed sincere gratitude to frontline responders for their professionalism and courage in protecting lives.”
The company also said it would keep monitoring developments and maintain cooperation with community partners as needs arise: “Tencent said it will continue to monitor the relief and recovery process, maintain close cooperation with community partners, and respond to emerging needs as the situation develops.”
