TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team is set to compete in Rally Estonia from July 17-20, marking the first of two high-speed gravel rounds in the FIA World Rally Championship. The team currently leads the manufacturers’ championship by 65 points, with Elfyn Evans at the top of a close drivers’ title contest.
Elfyn Evans aims to return to the podium on familiar terrain, having previously won twice in Finland. Kalle Rovanperä, winner of the last three WRC rounds in Estonia, also looks forward to competing on fast roads. Takamoto Katsuta and Sami Pajari are eager for faster roads after previous performances in Sweden and Junior WRC respectively.
Oliver Solberg will debut in TGR’s GR YARIS Rally1. “It’s a fantastic opportunity and a dream come true for me to be able to do Rally Estonia in the GR YARIS Rally1,” Solberg stated. Jari-Matti Latvala expressed excitement about Solberg’s opportunity: “We are also excited to give Oliver Solberg this opportunity after some strong results with the GR Yaris Rally2 car so far this season.”
Rally Estonia returns after a year away, known for its wide roads with jumps and crests alongside narrower technical sections. The event is based in Tartu, starting at Town Hall Square with stages across various locations.
Quotes from drivers emphasize their anticipation and preparation for the rally. Evans remarked on his knowledge of Estonia’s high-speed stages: “We’re looking forward to a very different character of rally for the next two events.” Rovanperä shared his excitement: “It’s cool to be going back to Rally Estonia this year.” Katsuta noted: “The fast rallies coming up in Estonia and Finland are some of my favourites.”
