Toyota Motor Corporation announced the expansion of its battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup at Auto Shanghai 2025 in China. This initiative is part of Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to achieving carbon neutrality, focusing on developing powertrain systems tailored to customer needs worldwide.
China, a leader in electrification with a significant proportion of BEVs in new car sales, is the launch site for Toyota’s new bZ7 BEV and Lexus’ new ES BEV. These models are designed to accelerate Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy while meeting local consumer demands.
The bZ7 was developed locally by Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., and Intelligent ElectroMobility R&D Center by TOYOTA (China) Co., Ltd. It is a BEV sedan over five meters long, combining strengths from each company, including Toyota’s manufacturing expertise and China’s advanced technology. The model will feature the latest intelligent technology suitable for a flagship model in China’s BEV lineup, with commercialization expected within a year.
The Lexus ES represents the first model in Lexus’ next-generation electrified vehicle lineup, available in both BEV and HEV specifications. It offers a spacious rear seat package and advanced technology for enhanced passenger comfort. The design draws inspiration from the next-generation BEV concept LF-ZC, aiming to improve quietness and ride comfort through electrification technology.
Toyota plans to continue addressing regional customer needs while contributing to carbon neutrality by developing various options such as HEVs, PHEVs, and FCEVs. The company’s efforts aim to create better cars while pursuing sustainable development goals.
“Achieving zero, and adding new value beyond it,” reflects Toyota’s commitment to solving societal issues and reducing environmental impacts. The company also seeks “Beyond Zero” solutions to enhance life quality for future generations.
Toyota Motor Corporation remains dedicated to innovation in mobility solutions that align with their guiding principles and sustainable development goals since its founding over 80 years ago.
